Trust, Safety, & Vetting

At Safe Sitters Europe, trust and safety are central to everything we do. Our mission is to help families connect with reliable, vetted caregivers while remaining transparent about what screening can—and cannot—provide.

While we take extensive steps to assess caregivers before they join our platform, no verification process can completely eliminate risk. We encourage all families to read the information below carefully.

Our Vetting & Review Process

Safe Sitters Europe uses a multi-step review process designed to increase trust and transparency for families across Europe.

Depending on the country and availability of records, this may include:

Identity Verification

Caregivers are required to submit a valid government-issued identity document (such as a passport or national ID). We review this document to confirm identity and consistency of personal details.

Human Interview

Every caregiver accepted onto Safe Sitters Europe is personally interviewed by a member of the Safe Sitters Europe team. This interview allows us to assess communication skills, childcare experience, professionalism, and overall suitability for working with families.

Experience & Reference Review

Where possible, caregivers are asked to provide details of prior childcare experience and references. These are reviewed as part of our screening process, though reference availability and formats may vary by country.

Background Documentation (Where Available)

In some European countries, caregivers may voluntarily provide official criminal record certificates or similar background documentation. When such documents are reviewed, they are considered as one component of the overall screening process.

Important Limitations of Background Checks

Families should understand that background documentation across Europe is subject to limitations:

  • Criminal record certificates may only reflect information available at the time of issuance

  • Records vary significantly by country and jurisdiction

  • Some countries limit access or scope of records

  • Documents may expire or become outdated

  • A clear record does not predict future behavior

For these reasons, no background check can guarantee safety or suitability.

What “Vetted” or “Verified” Means

When a caregiver is described as vetted or verified on Safe Sitters Europe, this means they have completed certain review steps through our platform, such as identity verification and an interview with our team.

It does not mean that Safe Sitters Europe guarantees the caregiver’s conduct, performance, or compatibility with a specific family.

Final hiring decisions always remain the responsibility of the family.

Privacy & GDPR Compliance

Safe Sitters Europe is committed to protecting personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • Sensitive documents are reviewed only for verification purposes

  • We limit access to personal data to authorized team members

  • We do not sell or publicly share identity or background documents

  • Data is retained only as long as necessary for operational and legal purposes

For more details, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Family Responsibility & Best Practices

We strongly encourage families to take additional steps before confirming childcare:

  • Meet the caregiver in advance (video call or in person)

  • Request to view original identity or background documents directly

  • Speak with references independently

  • Start with a short trial booking when possible

  • Trust your instincts and communicate any concerns promptly

No Guarantee & No Legal Advice

Safe Sitters Europe provides a matching and screening service only.

We are not a law firm, and nothing on this website constitutes legal advice. By using our platform, you acknowledge that:

  • Childcare involves inherent risk

  • Screening reduces risk but does not eliminate it

  • Safe Sitters Europe cannot guarantee outcomes or behavior

If You Feel Unsafe

If at any point you feel unsafe:

  1. End the interaction immediately

  2. Contact local emergency services if necessary

  3. Notify Safe Sitters Europe so we can take appropriate action

Our Commitment

We believe families deserve clarity, honesty, and high standards. Our process is designed to be one of the most thoughtful and human-centered childcare screening options available in Europe—without making promises no platform can responsibly make.
